Party Styling

Industrial Photo Shoot for Doris Loves

I had the pleasure recently of working with the lovely Amanda from Doris Loves, who specialise in making giant light-up letters to hire. Doris Loves wanted an industrial party feel to showcase their letters and give their clients (new and old), an idea of how these letters can be used in alternative ways to just LOVE or couples initials for weddings. They do have the whole alphabet after all!

Teaming up with the ever brilliant Sarah London Photography, we set about coming up with fab party words, ideas for our ‘party girls’ and of course- my job- to add in some fun decor! A few email conversations, pinterest images and a model search competition later, we have a fab industrial venue at Circus Street, Brighton, two gorgeous girls to model, a stack of pink balloons, party poppers, bunting and streamers. Not forgetting party hair, clothes and make up to dance the night away.

Here is a sneak peak of behind the scenes, the large team at work. All of the following images are taken by Jessica Milberg from The Looking Glass Boudoir. PS, we were working around a leaky ceiling with bucket loads of rain pouring in and obviously no heating. All in a days work!

40th Birthday Party Event Styling

After a busy few months, I am now going to start up my blog post again, and what better way than to introduce you to a wonderful surprise 40th birthday soiree that I just finished styling…

Back in the summer, I styled a wedding for a wonderful couple at Ashdown Park Hotel with a rustic, enchanted forest feel. It was at this wedding that the brother of the groom saw my styling work and decided upon using my services to style the 40th birthday party for his wife. This is a truely romantic gesture, as his wife Sam knew only of a dinner planned at the beautiful venue of Horsted Place in Uckfield, and nothing of the added decor, balloons, sparklers and birthday cake and sweet trolley that her husband entrusted me with planning and styling.

What a fabulous gesture and what a fabulous job for me… given a chance to come up with a theme and ideas for styling a large dining table and room in this venue. We decided upon a colour scheme of black, white and gold with arrows and geometric patterns introduced subtly. We kept all the table decor simple and low, so as not to obstruct any view across the table. I finally got to showcase my retro, gold trolley as a cake/ sweet trolley for Sams fab cake (courtesy of choccywoccydoodah) and covered my vintage folding screen with some gold sequin fabric to enhance this look, finished off with twinkling fairy lights at the bottom of the trolley.

50 gold and white helium balloons tied with gold or black ribbons attached, and white lanterns with candles lining the pathway outside of the dining room windows, a vase of sparklers at the ready by the door (for after dinner) and the room was complete.

Final details included; bespoke luggage tags with gold ribbons, sent to each guest before the party, that would be staying at the hotel, bespoke child minding cards sent in gold envelopes to each guest that would need to make child minding arrangements in order to attend the party and bespoke name place cards for the dining table. All flowers from Viva Verde in Hove. All photos by the wonderful Sarah London Photography. Venue Horsted Place.
